Chapter 5
The ride to school on the first day was not so magical.
There was a great rush in the morning at Mirabel's house,
after a whole summer of not having to get up early. It
was a bit of a scramble. It would be fun to see all the
friends though, and soon Mirabel was burbling along
with chatter and song.
There at the school door was Twinkle with her
parents, waiting to go inside and meet the teachers and
other children. The girls ran to each other and hugged,
Mirabel jumping up and down, Twinkle being still and
quiet, as usual.
"Don't be scared, Twinkle. Everyone here is really
kind and you will fit in very well," Mirabel told her.
When the teacher asked about their summer, the girls
didn't know what story to tell. Nobody would believe the
stories about smuggling talking pelicans, green-eyed pilots
from another planet, or flights aboard a peregrine falcon.
So Mirabel just said that they had travelled to Pelican
Lake, Alaska, the Armstrong Fair and its amazing rides.
