"They really gave you your money's worth. You were
gone a long time. Usually it's about ten minutes, but this
was more like thirty," said Amy, Liam's mum.
The two children were speechless, unable to describe
the ride, wondering if they were imagining it. Mirabel
even wondered if her experience was the same as Liam's.
"Too soon for ice cream?" said Ashley.
Both children nodded, still unable to speak. The parents
were wondering if the ride was a bit too much for them.
But Mirabel started to imagine telling the story to
Twinkle, who would surely understand the feeling. Or
would she? A girl who rarely expressed fear, anger,
sorrow or even excitement and joy. She would not be
surprised, however, by the magical ride on the back of
the dark-eyed bird.
