Evapotranspirative Irrigation/Fertigation For Horticulture
PROF. DR. IR. BUDI INDRA SETIAWAN

ABSTRACT
Evapotranspirative irrigation (ETI) refers to the irrigation technique in which the water
supplied to the plants is driven by the actual crop evapotranspiration. The water absorbed by
the plants from the soil will be replenished instantaneously by the irrigation water with the
same volume without energy consumption. This lecture describes ITE theoretically and
experimental works to grow water lettuce in pots. The yield was 258.9 g/m2 with the water
use efficiency reaching 95%. While the economical and physical water productivities were
2.17 g/L and 2.28 g/L, respectively. Water levels in the pots were maintained within an
expected range while the soil moisture above was in an unsaturated condition. This irrigation
technique is highly water-efficient, inexpensive, and easily manageable.
