Braille, Nemeth code (used for math), and Braille music code. He was
in his element of expertise when he gave these speeches.
Harley authored an article for the 2013 summer issue of “The
Student Slate”, a quarterly publication containing articles of interest
to blind students. Part of his message directed at TPOBC on “living
the life you want based on first impressions” recommended:
“Even though we are blind, we live in a sighted world, where
appearance and perceived capabilities define first impressions. We
must make those first impressions work towards our success.”
“First impressions are very powerful. A good first impression is the
key to starting any successful relationship. Therefore, always put your
best foot forward, and the chances of succeeding at the task will go up
exponentially.”
In January of 2013 during his eighth grade, Harley traveled with
Kim Aguillard and other NFB student members to Washington, DC to
advocate to members of Congress. He voiced his viewpoints on
disabled individuals at a political meeting with Pete Sessions, the
nd
Texas representative of the 32 congressional district in the U.S.
House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. regarding legislation.
