Repentance from sin
because people at the commencement of the 21st have very
different ideas.
When the first man sinned by disobeying God's instructions,
(see Genesis 3 v 6,7) the word in the original language
means to pass over. i.e. crossing over a boundary into a
forbidden area. It is where the saying 'No tresspassing,
tresspassers will be prosecuted' comes from.
But another word the Bible most uses, is the one meaning to
fall short or miss the target, as when shooting an arrow.
What is sin?
1. Sin is a lie. It started with a lie and continues to hold
men, by asking them to believe a lie.The serpent (devil) said
in Genesis 3 v4 'You will not surely die...'
Isaiah 15 v15 'We (people who will not believe the truth)
have made a covenant with death, with the grave we have
made an agreement. When an overwhelming scourge
sweeps by, it cannot touch us, for we have made a lie our
refuge and falsehood our hiding place'.
2. Sin is a delusion.
It is crafty, it offers pleasure but at a price. It brings with it the
sense of compulsion to do more of that which previously was
done that was wrong. In the end the sense of guilt becomes
dulled as wrong habits take over.
3. Sin is Darkness.
Darkness represents the total ignorance about God, who is
light. John 1 v5 'The light shines in the darkness but the
darkness has not understood it'.
