Baptisms

When John the Baptist was baptising with water and Jesus
came to him for baptism, John saw the Holy Spirit come down
and rest and stay on Jesus, in the image of a dove. This
caused John the Baptist to say to the people, John 1 v33,34
'...it is He who will baptise with the Holy Spirit. I have
seen and testify that this is the Son of God.'

So it is Jesus who Baptises with or in the Holy Spirit. A
christian is not Baptised by the Holy Spirit, that would be
                quite different.

Making both a comparison and a contrast with Baptism in
water, the same questions can be asked.

                 How is it adminstered?

 To whom is it adminstered?

                 What is the purpose?
 What happens to the one baptised?

 How is the Baptism in the Holy Spirit adminstered?

It is in two distinct but complementary ways. One inward and
one outward. In both the Holy Spirit is likened to water.

There are many scriptures in the New Testament that speak
of this baptising work with the HOLY SPIRIT. Here are two
that illustrate the inward and outward aspects of this Baptism.

John 7 v37,38,39. 'Jesus stood and said in a loud voice,
"If anyone is thirsty (for God), let him come to me and
drink. Whoever believes in me..., streams of living water
will flow from within him". By this He meant the Spirit,
whom those who believed in Him were later to receive.'
