What a Christian Believes
This fullness is sometimes also called the indwelling of the
HOLY SPIRIT.
In an earlier section it was seen that it is in God's nature to
give because He works according to Grace.
The Fullness of the Spirit is the permanent state in which a
believer lives. The SPIRIT will not be taken away from a
christian, because the SPIRIT is not given because of being
good and HE does not leave when a christian is bad.
An evidence of this is where the christians in Corinth were
warned about sexual immorality. 1Corinthians 6 v18,19,20.
'Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man (or
woman) commits are outside the body, but he who sins
sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know you
are the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom
you have received from God.'
THE HOLY SPIRIT is still dwelling in the christian who sins.
This is why the Bible urges the christian who sins to confess
and be cleansed. 1John 1 v9 'If we confess our sins, He is
faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us
from all unrighteousness.'
However, although the indwelling or fullness of the HOLY
SPIRIT is permanent for the christian, Jesus knows that there
is need for many special fillings of the Holy Spirit, for the
believer to live the christian life to which he or she has been
called.
The first of these fillings is called the Baptism in (or with)
the Holy Spirit.
The purpose is found in Acts 1 v8 'But you will receive
power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.'
