Baptisms
This is power with a purpose. The verse goes on to explain
to the disciples that 'you will be my witnesses in
Jerusalem, in all Judea, and Samaria and to the ends of
the earth.'
Every christian knows that it is difficult to be a witness for
Jesus. But when they realise how Jesus expects them to be
witnesses then they realise it is impossible to do it alone.
Jesus said in John 14 v12 'I tell you the truth, anyone who
has faith in Me will do what I have been doing. He will do
even greater than these, because I am going to the
Father.'
The things Jesus spoke of included healing the sick, raising
the dead, doing miracles, bringing many to salvation and
saving them from hell.
Every christian is expected to play a part in witnessing to the
truth about CHRIST by seeing that the same and greater
works of Jesus are done, where they are serving.
Supernatural deeds come only from a supernatural God
who gives His power to His people supernaturally.
WHAT IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH MAN IS POSSIBLE WITH
GOD.
The Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the many fillings that
come after are specifically to give power to the christian
to do the works which God has called him or her to do,
as a witness for Jesus.
All believers, without exception, are called to be
witnesses, to do works of service and therefore need the
power of the Holy Spirit.
