the virus. If that worked, then the virus wouldn’t
have left China and spread to 140-plus counties.
So I needed another source of hope. I found it in
a business podcast called “The Thrivetime Show.”
Every day they were breaking down the actual
numbers compared to the hype. They exposed
the insane steps we were taking to combat the
virus, “This is like burning down your home to

kill a mouse in the house.” They gave real time
advice to business owners for what to do next.
They empowered us with comparisons that no
one else was making, like H1N1 was as bad or
worse then and we didn’t shut down the county.
As a boss and owner of a carpet cleaning
business, I had to give my employees hope every

day. Because every day, the world we live in
changes. One day, we needed to socially distance.
The next day, we could only gather in groups
of fifty or less. The next day, all entertainment
venues closed down. The next day, all non-
essential businesses were told to close. Each day
it was a different kind of fear and loss of hope my
employees had questions about. I had to make
sure that I had that hope before the day started

and had an answer before the question was asked
so they could follow my confidence each day.
As owners of a business, my wife and I were
