relatively large in Taiwan, and the products possessed strong regional characteristics
and a high level of recognition.Even today, Nantou area retains the highest number of
snake kilns in Taiwan. These include snake kilns that continuously firing, snake kilns
has been left idle for a long time but still well-preserved, and some are hidden in the
fields with only remains left. The current state of conservation displays a diversity of
forms and approaches, each with distinct characteristics. However, there are still some
of the content is less than ideal.
This study will focus on the snake kilns of Nantou and, using the framework and
knowledge of cultural heritage to explore issues related to their conservation. By
summarizing the development of snake kilns and the early-stage pottery industry in
Nantou area, the current status and conservation cases of snake kilns in Nantou area,
the characteristics of snake kilns, and their cultural heritage value, this study seeks to
analyze the difficulties and unique features associated with the conservation of snake
kilns. Finally, based on the current state and practical conditions of the snake kilns,
this study proposes several conservation models and explores the principles and
significance of conservation underlying each. In addition, it identifies the continuation
of kiln-firing and kiln-repair techniques as the most critical factor in the conservation
of snake kilns.

一、前言
在過去的二三十年間, 「南投陶」已然被視為南投的重要文化,我們可以從
相關文獻與文物中了解南投陶業過往歷史悠久的產業內涵,卻早已不見曾經的
盛況,充分體現出時代變遷的快速與產業消弭的程度。南投地區的傳統陶瓷產
業曾十分興盛,以全台而言規模較大且產品具有較強的地方特色和知名度,窯
爐方面,主要以「蛇窯」燒製,時至今日。全台灣的蛇窯所剩無幾,南投地區
目前留存的蛇窯數量是全台最多,有四家窯廠保存著完整蛇窯共五座,也有零
星殘跡仍存,保存模式多元、各具特色。
綜觀「南投陶」的發展,傳統的產業型態已經消失,當代的陶藝經營大多
為現代創作或者延續部分南投陶之元素、特色,其中,添興窯和水里蛇窯,都
保存傳統蛇窯並轉型現代陶藝產作發展,是南投陶歷史傳承與當代發展的重要
窯廠,可見蛇窯的保存對當代陶業或陶藝的發展仍具一定意義。故本研究將以
南投地區的蛇窯為研究對象,以文化遺產觀念和知識為基礎,透過文獻爬梳和
