MIL Robotic Process Automation (RPA)
Community of Practice (CoP)
By: Paul Marshall
In October 2021, MIL inaugurated an RPA CoP in recognition of our growing community of
RPA bot developers, process analysts, project managers – and clients! RPA has exploded in the
government over the last couple years and MIL has been on the vanguard of this revolution.
We were the first company to establish an RPA program at the State Department out of
Charleston, SC. Most recently, we have been adding enhanced Artificial Intelligence/Machine
Learning (AI/ML) capabilities to our automations utilizing tools on the Google Cloud Platform
(GCP). With RPA, we are helping clients automate dozens of financial and operational
processes including reconciliations, reading, and processing forms, monitoring system activity,
and facilitating timecard entry into multiple systems. We also stay in touch with the federal
RPA CoP and State Department RPA CoP on a bi-weekly basis to share topics, troubleshoot
problems, and connect on opportunities that can benefit on a larger scale.
Our MIL RPA CoP meets quarterly to discuss RPA/AI trending topics, share ideas, provide
demos of what we are doing for different clients, provide support and advice with common
challenges, and to answer technical questions. The CoP has built an MIL SharePoint site
with templates, points of contact, training materials, and everything related to MIL’s RPA/AI
practice. We also utilize a Teams channel to answer questions and share best practices among
team members. We currently have nearly 30 staff supporting clients with RPA including the
State Department’s Bureau of the Comptroller and Global Financial Services and Bureau of
Diplomatic Security, Federal Aviation Administration, National Institute of Standards and
Technology, Library of Congress…and even internal bots here at MIL!
If you are interested in RPA/AI and want to learn more about what MIL is doing, join our RPA
CoP by sending an email to pmarshall@milcorp.com.
MIL CARES
Girl Power
MIL recently became an Inventor Sponsor of the Sisterhood Summit 2022 at DC’s Girls Global
Academy, an all-girls public charter high school established to provide girls a “global education
that ignites empowerment and develops the confidence to influence change for global benefit.”
Founded by two former educators to promote sisterhood, scholarship, service, and safety—the
academy’s four pillars—the school seeks to tackle inequities in the education of girls, including
the lack of women going into STEM fields.
According to the Academy’s website: “Girls’ schools are leading the way in STEM education for
women in the world. Graduates of girls’ schools are six times more likely to consider majoring
in math, science, and technology and three times more likely to consider engineering compared
to girls who attended coed schools.”
