In earlier chapters we have already mentioned AMOS SIMMONS FOY listed
above in BYRON C. FOY’s lineage . In later chapters you are going to hear
more about him because he was one of the first FOYs to come to Texas. He and
or JOHN ELON FOY were, according to the chart, first cousins, twice removed.
It is his family that settled in the Dallas, Texas area. They are our relatives. Their
kin are still living in Texas and elsewhere and are also our distant kin.
The name JAMES MADISON FOY is also noted as a part of BYRON C. FOY’s
lineage. There were actually two JAMES MADISON FOYs who lived in Texas.
One JAMES MADISON FOY settled in the Sweetwater, Texas area. There is a
FOY room in the sweetwater museum dedicated to his family. We will briefly
discuss him, also, in a later chpter.

CONTINUING EDUCATION ON RELATIONSHIPS;
“Cousins and removed”. Before doing genealogy research I had never paid
much attention to family relationship nomenclature; i.e., 1st cousins, 2nd cousins,
x cousin removed, etc. If they were my relative, they were my relative. It did not
matter what they were called.
However, doing this research and trying to keep up with who was who almost
made it necessary to at least try to put a name on the relationships because using
the names of people became confusing; so many have the same name. Turns out,
it really is not that difficult.
All of us know what a cousin is. If one of your parents and one of my parents
have the same parents (i.e., our parents are brothers, or sisters, or brother and
sister), then we are cousins....... 1st cousins. Your parents are my aunt and uncle;
my parents are your aunt and uncle.
Now, if you and I are 1st cousins and you have a child, that child is my “1st
cousin, once removed”. The “once removed” simply means they are one
generation away from being my 1st cousin, or one generation from my
generation.
