THOMAS FOY, JR’s name appears on several historical documents. One is the
will of JOSEPH SANDERSON of Craven County, North Carolina dated
February 12, 1774 where THOMAS FOY is noted as a witness. The original will
is housed in the Historical Commission library at Raleigh, North Carloina.
On September 26, 1766 a patent (a deed) for 100 acres of land in Craven County
was issued to a THOMAS FOY, thought actually to be THOMAS FOY, JR.
(Remember THOMAS FOY, SR died in about 1761.)
There are records of at least three other land grants for a THOMAS FOY; all
dating after the death of THOMAS FOY, SR:
100 acres granted April 25, 1767
200 acres granted April 27, 1767
50 acres granted Dec. 11, 1770
THOMAS FOY’s name was also listed on the same 1769 taxpayer role for
Craven County as was JOHN FOY’s name. THOMAS FOY had four male
blacks and six female blacks at the time.
THOMAS FOY’s name is also to be found on records for Jones County, North
Carolina. Jones County was formed out of Craven County in 1779.
The following is the text of THOMAS FOY’s (THOMAS FOY, JR) will dated
January 8, 1788 which gives us some idea of the names of his wife and children
and of his wealth:
