Ms. Shah has come to the hospital with her mother.

She has a large cut on her foot.

Doctor: Hello Mrs. Shah and Ms. Shah.
My name is Dr. Hamilton and this the emergency ward of West Ward Hospital.

Ms. Shah: It is my mother. She has a large cut on her foot.

Doctor : Yes, Ms. Shah, we will remove the bandage, wash it, and check the damage.
The report says that it was done with a knife at 12pm – is this correct?

Ms. Shah : Yes, it was at 12 o'clock today. She dropped the knife on her foot while cooking in the
kitchen.

Doctor : And have you put anything on the cut other than the bandage?

Ms. Shah : Yes, some antiseptic cream .
Doctor : I see. Let us have a look. Yes, she has a severe incised wound.

Ms. Shah : A what?
Doctor : Oh, it is the medical term for a deep cut.

Does your mother have any allergies to any medication?
Ms. Shah : She says no.

Doctor : OK. We are going to clean out the wound, and then give her an antibiotic injection.

Ms. Shah : I see.

Doctor : Can you tell me if the knife was clean or rusty ?
Ms. Shah : It was an old knife – a little rusty.

Doctor : Do you know when your mother received her last tetanus shot ?
Ms. Shah : She says that she does not remember.

Doctor : Can she remember whether it was in the last 10 years?
