Breaking the Curse of Poverty  David K. Owusu

under the Law of Moses, the principle of tithing goes way back to
the time of the patriarch of our faith, Abraham.

In the book of Genesis 14:1-17, the Bible records that Abraham,
having won a great battle against the people who had captured his
nephew Lot, had gathered a great quantity of spoils.

The Bible continues to say, in Genesis 14:18-20[nIV],

18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and
wine. He was priest of God Most High, 19 and he blessed
Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator
of heaven and earth. 20 And praise be to God Most High, who
delivered your enemies into your hand.”

Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

Melchizedek was the priest of the Most High God, God’s
representative in the earth at that particular time. He blessed
               Abraham.

How did Abraham respond? Abraham gave Melchizedek a tenth
of everything he had gained in victory.

It is important to see that Abraham is presented in the new
Testament as a Father who sets a pattern to all subsequent believers.
We are not only called to be to be imitators of the faith of our
patriarchs in the sense of how they well executed their walk of faith
but we are to be doers of the word.

In Romans 4:11-12, we the Bible says:-
