“So then, he {Abraham} is the father of all who believe...... And he
is also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised
but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father
Abraham had before he was circumcised [which was at the time
Melchizedek met him].”
In Romans 4:16 [nIV], Paul went on to write,
“Therefore, the promises comes by faith, so that it may be by grace
and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring-not only to
those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of
Abraham. He is the father of us all”.
Abraham becomes our father when we walk in the footsteps of
his faith, and develop the same kind of faith he had; when we
acknowledge the areas of finances and material possessions as
belonging to God, just as he did.
Following in Abraham’s footsteps was Jacob, his grandson. Jacob
became a refugee because he tricked his father, Isaac; and his
brother, Esau. He left the land of the inheritance and went off to
seek his fortune in Mesopotamia.
When he set out, all he had in his hand was one staff.
The Bible in Genesis 28:20-22 [nIV] says,
“Then Jacob made a vow, saying” If God will be with me and
will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me
food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father’s
house, then the Lord will be my God and this stone that I have
set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me
