TWO SHADOW AGATE SNUFF BOTTLES
1750-1860
The first of rounded square form with a tubular neck, flat lip and
oval foot ring, the dark brown inclusion on one face lightly carved to
suggest a hawk perched on a tree branch above a bear; the second
of flattened ovoid form with tubular neck, flat lip and flat oval foot, the
inclusions incised with a boy, rocks and pine tree, all between lion
mask and mock ring handles on the shoulders.

AN AGATE ‘CHILONG AND TIGER’ SNUFF BOTTLE
1750-1860
Well-hollowed, of rounded square outline, the caramel colored skin on
one face carved through to form the design of a writhing chilong and a
tiger, all surmounted by a short tubular neck and supported on an oval
foot ring.
