TWO OVERLAY GLASS SNUFF BOTTLES
1780-1850
The first of flattened ovoid shape in opaque yellow, overlaid with
translucent ocher carved on one side with a carp leaping from
turbulent waters, emitting vapors from its mouth bearing a pavilion, the
other side carved with a crane bearing a peach branch flying above the
rising sun; the second of flattened circular shape in snowflake glass,
the opaque blue layer carved with figures and the ‘Three Friends of
Winter’ in a landscape.

A BLUE OVERLAY SNOWFLAKE GLASS ‘TAIJI SCROLL’ SNUFF
BOTTLE
1800-1850
Of flattened globular form rising to a cylindrical neck and flat lip, the
blue layer carved with the scene of three elders viewing a taiji scroll,
while two others approach from the other side, all supported on an
oval foot ring.
