A JADEITE CARVING OF HE XIANGU
20th century
The slender figure dressed in long, flowing
garments, holding a branch of lingzhi in her left
hand, her right hand covered by a billowing
sleeve and supporting the shaft of a garden hoe
suspending a tasseled basket of peaches, the
graceful immortal flanked at the right by a crane
biting a lingzhi branch and resting on a rocky
outcropping, the brilliant apple-green stone suffused
with patches of dark green and white.

Fashioned as a high-shouldered ovoid vase and
cover carved to the exterior with a network of
grapevines and ripe fruit in high relief and openwork,
the elegant leaves picked out from the apple-green
patches of the icy-white stone.
