A silver-wire-inlaid bronze archaistic
vase and cover, you
18th century
The pear-shaped vessel standing on a tall splayed
foot, centrally cast with a wide band of two silver-
wire-inlaid taotie masks on leiwen ground, divided
by two vertical flanges on the side, below a narrow
band of kui dragons flanked by a pair of cylindrical
handles attached at either end with a swinging
overhead rope-twist handle, the cover with a
circular finial, similarly decorated with stylised
dragon scrolls and flanges.

十八世紀 銅嵌銀絲饕餮紋提梁卣
The present vase derives from an archaic bronze
prototype, you, which was used as a bronze ritual
wine vessel during the Shang and Zhou dynasties.
Compare a related bronze vase and cover with
a rope-twist handle, dated to the 18th century,
illustrated by P.Moss, The Second Bronze Age:

A gilt and silver-inlaid two-handled
vase, hu
18th century
Sturdily cast and raised on a short splayed foot,
the body inlaid in silver and gilt with two taotie
masks on a leiwen ground, separated by a pair of
monster-head inlaid handles, above a narrow band
of four other taotie masks, the foot decorated with
stylised chilong scrolls, all below key-fret border
below the rim.
