A gilt-bronze figure of a Buddhist
deity and mandorla
17th/18th century
The four-headed deity wearing Buddhist tiaras
surrounding the stupa-like headdress, one pair of
hands held in front of the chest in dharmachakra
mudra, the three other pairs of hands each holding
a Buddhist object including two vajras, a bow and
arrow and a sword, the figure cast with a smaller
female figure seated on his left knee with her
right arm wrapped around his shoulder, all atop a
double-lotus pedestal with a Tibetan inscription
on the reverse and framed by a separately-cast
flaming mandorla.
Overall 20.1cm (8in) high (2).

A Tibetan gilt-bronze figure of
Sakyamuni
18th century
Seated cross-legged atop a double-lotus pedestal
with his right hand held in bhumisparsa mudra
and the left held gently in the lap in dhyana mudra,
the broad chest partially concealed by the robe
with finely chased ornamental borders falling from
the left shoulder, the serene face with remains of
red tint to the eyes and the lip beneath his tightly
curled hair.
