famille rose bowl
19th century
Enamelled on the exterior with two lobed
cartouches, one containing a lady and her
husband engaged in a game of weiqi, the other
with two officials seated at tables greeting two
bearded generals pleading on behalf of a man,
each separated by small cartouches with figures
on terraces, and surrounded by birds and flowers,
the interior with a seated lady with attendants,
surrounded by a border of figures on terraces and
gardens, all beneath flowers and birds on a gold
ground at the rim. 58.8cm (23 1/8in) diam.

Each cylindrical body brightly and densely
enamelled with a village lakeside scene, depicting
figures carrying out various domestic duties and
everyday life, the shoulder auspiciously decorated
on a gilt ground with a band consisting of scholar
objects amidst finger citrons, lychees and leafy
blossoming flowers, the neck painted with red and
orange grisaille with a lady and attendants, flanked
by two gilt moulded dragon handles, surmounted
by a down-turned everted lobed rim decorated
with floral and fruit sprays. 41cm (16in) high (2).
