A GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF MAHAKALA
18TH CENTURY
清十八世紀 鎏金銅大黑天法王立像
The wrathful deity is modelled striding in alidhasana on a prostrate fgure
of Ganapati over a lotus base, holding a curved knife and skull cup in his
primary hands and various implements in the others. He is clad in a tiger skin
adorned with masks, chains and beaded jewellery, his face with bulging eyes
is surmounted by a skull tiara with wild hair in fames, with turquoise inlays
remaining.

Dharmapala is seated upon a tiger skin and double lotus base, holding a vajra
in his right hand, and a skull cap in his left. He is draped in jewels and wears an
elaborate headdress decorated with skulls, and bears a ferce expression on
his face.
