A RARE RECTANGULAR GREYISH-GREEN
JADE BELT PLAQUE WITH A SEATED
MUSICIAN
TANG DYNASTY (AD 618-907)
The rectangular plaque is carved in relief on
the front with a seated Central Asian man
playing a musical instrument, and the fat
reverse is pierced at the corners with bull-
nose attachment holes. The semi-translucent
stone is of greyish-green color.

A SMALL GREYISH-GREEN AND RUSSET
JADE FIGURE OF A MYTHICAL BEAST
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644) OR EARLIER
The seated, dragon-headed beast holds a
lotus bud in the right paw and a string of
beads in the left paw on the bent left knee.
The creature has pendulous breasts above a
protruding belly and is detailed with slightly
open jaws, an incised beard, a pair of long
curved horns, a knobby backbone and areas
of scales. The stone shades from pale greyish-
green to brown and opaque buff with russet
color.
