A JIANYAO ‘HARE’S FUR’ TEA BOWL
SOUTHERN SONG DYNASTY, 12TH-13TH
CENTURY
The heavily potted, conical bowl is covered
inside and out with a lustrous blackish-
brown glaze fnely streaked with fne russet
‘hare’s fur’ markings below the brown slip-
covered, indented rim, and pooling in a
thick, irregular line on the exterior, exposing
the coarse ware fred to a dark brown.

CENTURY
The bowl is potted with rounded conical
sides and covered inside and out with a dark
brown glaze splashed in transparent amber
glaze that forms a more dense pattern on the
interior and ends in an irregular line on the
exterior atop a medium-brown slip-glaze
above the fat-bottomed ring foot. The rim
has a metal mount.
