MARKS AND SEALS ON POTTERY. II
The mark in the centre is the impressed seal of Taizan
;
the characters on the right are Chiokiisho Sojigsha, the former
being the name and the latter the title of the priest depicted,
and those on the left are Dai Nippon, Bizan, yegakii; meaning,
Painted by Bizan, Great Japan.
Impressed marks are very seldom found upon porcelain,
but Kitei, a maker of sonietsuke ware in Kiomidzu, occa-
sionally follows this plan the mark given below is
;
impressed in the undecorated part of the specimen from
which it is copied.
