                                                                              By Yoho, Meiji era (1868-1912),
                                                                              late 19th/early 20th century
                                                                              The rectangular panels intricately incised and
                                                                              carved in varying degrees of relief, one side
                                                                              with the famous warrior Kusunoki Masashige
                                                                              on horseback in front of a war curtain
                                                                              departing for his final battle, having entrusted
                                                                              a scroll on war strategy to his son Masatsura
                                                                              to whom he bids farewell; the reverse with
                                                                              Kojima Takanori standing beneath branches of
                                                                              cherry, writing on the tree trunk an inscription
                                                                              expressing confidence in the restoration of
                                                                              imperial power, within a lobed frame engraved
                                                                              with clouds, bordered by straight sides etched
                                                                              in black with geometric brackets, the whole
                                                                              raised on two bracket feet engraved with half-
                                                                              chrysanthemum blossoms on a wave-pattern
                                                                              ground; signed on both sides Yoho with a
                                                                              seal. 24cm x 20cm (9½in x 7 7/8in).

                                                                              AN IVORY SHIBAYAMA-INLAID AND
                                                                              ENAMELLED SILVER-FILIGREE DISH
                                                                              By Masayoshi, Meiji era (1868-1912),
                                                                              late 19th/early 20th century
                                                                              Raised on three feet, the central round ivory
                                                                              panel boldly decorated in typical Shibayama
                                                                              inlay with birds flying and standing around
                                                                              a large ikebana basket brimming over with
                                                                              peonies, wisteria and cherry blossoms
                                                                              surrounded by eight rectangular lobes of
                                                                              delicate silver filigree scrolls and tendrils,
                                                                              each set with a kidney-shaped panel of
                                                                              coloured enamels representing different
                                                                              seasonal flowers; the base of nashiji and
                                                                              signed with chiselled characters Masayoshi
                                                                              kizamu (Chiselled by Masayoshi) within a silver
                                                                              rectangular reserve.
