A CELADON JADE RETICULATED
‘DRAGON’ PLAQUE
YUAN-MING DYNASTY (1279-1644)
The lobed plaque is fnely carved and pierced
with a scaly dragon amongst fowers and clouds,
the underside is pierced with six pairs of holes for
attachment. The stone is of an even celadon tone.

A rectangular plaque carved with a similar dragon
and clouds, dating the Yuan dynasty (1279-1368)
is illustrated by Mei Ninghua and Tao Xincheng
in Gems of Beijing, Cultural Relics Series, Jades,
1999, no. 123, p.128.

WOOD BOX LATER IN DATE
The foliate-shaped plaque is carved and pierced
with two cranes in fight above a lotus pond, inset
into a circular wood cover and box.
The jade plaque 3º in. (8.1cm.) diam.
