A LARGE PAINTED ENAMEL ‘QUAILS’ TABLE
SCREEN
18th century
The screen of rectangular form, finely enamelled in
vibrant colours on the front with a continuous scene
depicting a flock of quails standing on a stippled,
lakeside verdant ground beneath shrubs of linghzi,
flowering narcissi and blossoming peonies issuing
from jagged rocks, all reserved on a white ground,
hongmu wood stand.
Overall 42cm (16 1/2in) wide. (2).

A RARE PAINTED ENAMEL ‘EUROPEAN
SUBJECT’ RUBY-BACK DISH
Yongzheng
Decorated with a central scene of an elegant
European lady and gentleman seated beneath
pine beside rockwork, the lady reading with a
set of albums at her side, the rim with four large
cartouches of insects resting on leafy peach, 685
pomegranate and melon sprays at the compass
points reserved on geometric-pattern grounds, the
underside ruby-enamelled.

Peter H.B. Frelinghuysen Jr was an American
politician and attorney. He represented New Jersey’s
Fifth Congressional District in the United States
House of Representatives as a Republican from
1953 to 1975.
