alternating auspicious Daoist patterns, the sides of the wood shaft
pierced and decorated similarly.

A CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER RUYI SCEPTER
18th/19th century
The scepter of red lacquer ground carved in relief with eight Buddhist
emblems set in cartouches, the underside carved with a wanzi-
patterned diaper.

TWO METAL RUYI SCEPTERS
Both of typical shape, the first late Qing/Republic, possibly originally a
portion of an incense clock, formed from metal alloy thinly reticulated in
elaborate fu, lu and shou characters; the second 20th century, formed
from cloisonne surrounding metal alloy dragons at the three nodes and
bearing a Xuande mark to the underside of the shaft.
