operations of Jones-Hamilton Co. and prohibits unlawful discrimination by any employee
of Jones-Hamilton Co. including supervisors and coworkers.
ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY
Attendance and punctuality are an important part of the employee’s job performance.
Absenteeism places a burden on other employees who have to perform the absent
employee’s duties. Absenteeism or tardiness can cause scheduling problems for the
department and can adversely affect our ability to serve our customers.
Absences and Tardiness
If an employee is going to be absent or tardy from any scheduled work, he/she must
communicate directly with his/her supervisor via phone or text. If an employee is
unable to report for work on any particular day, the employee must contact his or her
supervisor at least sixty (60) minutes before the time the employee is scheduled to
begin working for that day. If the employee contacts his or her supervisor less than
sixty (60) minutes before the scheduled time to begin work, and does not arrive in
time for the assigned shift, but arrives late, he/she will be considered tardy for that
day. If the employee does not appear for the assigned shift at all, he/she will be
considered absent.
Occasionally, it is necessary to be absent from work due to an emergency, sudden
illness, or circumstances beyond the employee control. In the event an employee is
absent due to such unavoidable circumstances, the supervisor should be contacted as
soon as possible, and no later than 24 hours after the employee was scheduled to
appear for work. If the employee is not able to contact his/her supervisor, have an
immediate family member do so. The employee must also provide Jones-Hamilton Co.
with a health care provider or other documentation establishing their need to be
absent satisfactory to Jones-Hamilton Co. when they return to work. Sick leave may
be used in the case of emergency or sudden illness without prior scheduling.
Absences due to illnesses or injuries that qualify for leave under the Family and
Medical Leave Act (FMLA) will NOT be counted against an employee’s attendance
