Tip: What to Do if it Smears
If the object you want to remove is near an edge in the image, there’s a chance the Patch tool will leave a large smear on the edge as it patches the area. If
that happens, press Command-Z (PC: Ctrl-Z) to Undo, then go up to the Options Bar and, from the Patch pop-up menu, choose Content-Aware, and try
again. That will usually do the trick. Also, another trick to try is to use the Clone Stamp tool (S) to clone over the part that’s right along the edge, then once
there’s a gap between the edge and the rest of the thing you want to remove, you can use the Patch tool again, set to Normal patch in the Options Bar.
Step Four:
There was one more little area right under the reflection near the front of the bigger boat, so I just put a selection around it, dragged it to a clean, nearby
area, released the mouse button, and it’s gone. This tool works so well, so often, that I predict it will become one of your go-to tools, especially when the
thing you want to remove is a little larger than what you’d use the Spot Healing Brush or regular Healing Brush to remove.
