The philosopher shrugged. “I have dealt with similar cases in
misapplied logic and pinhead angel-count axiomatics. But it comes to
this, Your Majesty: the Rainbow Necklace represents the visible
spectrum, the part of your kingdom which is apparent to our human
eyes. But beyond that narrow range of tawdry hues lies a vast infinity
of invisible light, the high moral and spiritual plane of our kingdom
of Baublestein, where truth and goodness and justice reign supreme
        in immutable serenity, where—”
“Where you will soon be conducting your investigations in
person,” cut in the king. “Truth and goodness and justice are under
my control: that should be evident to everyone. I’ve never heard such
rubbish in my life. Take him away!”
The philosopher was removed, and at the same time the ranks of
those waiting to answer the question noticeably thinned. King
Conundra had made good his threat.
