The night passed, its relative quiet disturbed only by occasional rips
and tears as Spats discovered and despoiled yet another treasure
trove. Billy Bob’s stomach growled. His eyes strained against the
darkness to pick up Spats’ location, but there was no indication that
the invader was abandoning his conquest. Finally the city began to
stir, traffic noises slowly rising above the muted background chatter
of nocturnal foragers. Levi suddenly appeared, his black fur still an
effective camouflage in the waning minutes before sunrise.
