Billy Bob studied the situation. The grinding whine of a garbage
truck came to his ears, reminding him of the wonderful food he’d
lost.
“All right, I’ll do it. Looks like we can always beat a hasty retreat if
this thing misfires.”
He stood up, stretched every inch of his spine, and wandered off
toward a well-known hole in the fence. Levi Katz waited a few
minutes, trying to time the arrival of the truck in his stretch of the
alley. Then he walked carefully toward the target trash can, head
down and tail tucked in submissively.
