Billy Bob Cat calmed down, possibly amused by the absurdity of
Levi’s determination.
“But we can’t attack him together—we’re not dogs. And if some
other cat comes along who really is bigger and stronger than he is,
and kicks him out, what would that do for us?”
Levi was silent, his stream of wisecracks and idle chatter stilled for
once. He watched as Spats leapt effortlessly into a tall trashcan and
pulled out a barely picked-over fish head. That’s how it is, he mused
in misery: the big ones eat the small ones. And then he had an idea.
