THE PROSPEROUS SOUL
6) Forgive Freely
There may be times when you are not able to resolve a disagreement
even after you’ve talked it through with your friend. In those cases,
forgive freely and keep your heart free of bitterness. Don’t keep
rehearsing the issue over and over in your mind. Pray, let it go and trust
God to work it out.
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has
a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
(Colossians 3:13)
Love … keeps no record of wrongs (1 Corinthians 13:5)
7) Be Confidential and Trustworthy
It goes without saying that we must be careful not to betray the trust
placed in us by a friend. Similarly, we should be wary of someone who
carelessly discloses information about someone that could harm how
that person is seen by others. Such a person cannot be trusted with our
own personal information. Furthermore, that person’s gossip can sow
seeds of mistrust and separation among friends.
A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close
friends (Proverbs16:28)
Whoever would foster love covers over an offense, but
whoever repeats the matter separates close friends. (Proverbs
17:9)
8) Be a Blessing to your Friend and Pray for each Other
Everyone will go through difficult times. Be willing to walk with your
friend through good times. Do what you can to help your friend get
through difficult times. Take the time to pray for your friend. Bring their
issues and concerns before the Lord. Sometimes, partnering in prayer
with someone who is confidential and trustworthy can be the basis of a
strong friendship.
A friend always loves, and a brother is born for a time of adversity
(Proverbs 17:17).
