system participants. For instance, Microsoft employs
such models to rank the skill level of players in online
games; banks assess the validity of potential borrowers
when they submit applications for loans; and a number
of businesses have attempted to automate the process
of reviewing resumes for open positions in their
          organization.

Two of the most pressing unanswered questions are
what the system would look like if fully implemented and
how it would operate technologically. There are several
          possible explanations for this uncertainty.

To begin with, the system’s designers are aware that the
more information they share about it, the more holes
others can poke in its security.

Second, it is entirely possible that the developers
of the system do not themselves have a complete
understanding of how it operates. They may simply be
placing their faith in the reliability of their algorithms.

HERE’S MY OUTLOOK ON HOW A RANKED
          SOCIETY WILL LOOK LIKE

The description that follows are what I image might
happen in practice. Every aspect of a person’s life,
from their eligibility to ride public transportation to the
types of jobs they might be offered in the future, could
be determined by a single score under the premise of a
nationwide social score system. When this is done, the
score ends up being the main factor that determines
a person’s place in society. If this occurs, the most
likely result will be an increase in the degree of social
