SESSION 6 : Song of Songs Chapter 2:8-10 (TPT)
So often, we, the Church, try to put this glorious, unfettered,
unpredictable, ever-loving, untameable God in a box—and thereby
quench the power and presence of the Holy Spirit.
John 3:8 (TPT), however, tells us:
“For the Spirit-Wind blows as it chooses....”
He is to be given free rein in both our lives and our churches.
As I was praying about how to convey the meaning of the second part
of this verse, I was also led to read the New International Version (NIV)
of verse 9, which says this: “My beloved is like a gazelle or a young
stag. Look! There he stands behind our wall, gazing through the
windows, peering through the lattice.” This has resulted in two
interpretations, which I consider worth mentioning.
Firstly, the Passion Translation talks about the Bridegroom-King
coming closer—even to the places where she hides—peering through
a portal into her soul as He blossoms within her heart.
The closer our walk with Jesus, the brighter the light that shines into
the depths of our being. He is light, and His light exposes the dark
places of our lives. As we mature in our faith, we can no longer
overlook—or get away with—the same things we could earlier in our
walk. This could refer to ingrained wrong attitudes, worldliness, unholy
living, or areas of bitterness, resentment, unforgiveness, and offense
that we have not yet dealt with.
