very rare to catch something immediately—it takes time and strategy.
As we persist in petitioning our Father, He will send the Holy Spirit to
show us how to gain the victory. In my own personal experience, what
works for one person need not necessarily be the strategy that works
for another. Therefore, it is so important that we seek God on this
matter for ourselves and listen for His leading and guidance.
A totally different interpretation of this verse emanates from Ezekiel
13:4–5 (NKJV):
“O Israel, your prophets are like foxes in the deserts. You have not
gone up into the gaps to build a wall for the house of Israel to stand in
battle on the day of the Lord.”
The foxes here are false prophets—the type referred to in 2 Timothy
4:3–4 (NKJV)—who bring messages that people prefer to hear but are
not helpful in their spiritual walk, as opposed to the Spirit-filled truth
of the living God, which brings transformation and reformation:
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but
according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they
will heap up for themselves teachers; and will turn their ears away from
the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”
Some years ago, I came across such a ‘fox’. It was at a Sunday morning
service, and the preacher said that there were more ways to reach God
than through Jesus. Bearing in mind that I was very new to the church—
and also that there were Spirit-filled Christians in the audience—it was
