RADICAL LOVE
Once again, the Shulamite is seeing Jesus revealed in a new and deeper
way, just as she did in chapter 2, verse 8. Back then, despite the
revelation, she was still unwilling to go where He wanted to lead her.
However, as we will see, the situation is different now. The time she
has spent with the Lord—allowing Him to show her new delights of
being in covenant with Him and also ministering to her—has prepared
her for the next stage of her journey of love.
The chapter concludes with an exhortation for those less mature
maidens to follow the example of the Shulamite and to rise and enter
into a deeper, loving relationship with the Lord, so that they will also
get a revelation of His greatness, love, and majesty. How
overwhelmingly joyful an experience it is when we know the Lord. The
Holy Spirit desires every Christian to really know Jesus and the true
joy He brings because “The joy of the Lord is our strength.” We must
heed this exhortation! In the days that lie ahead for the Ecclesia of Jesus
Christ, much strength will be required.
