SESSION 16 : Song of Songs Chapter 6:13; 7:1-6 (TPT)
Alongside this, however, He always spoke the undiluted truth of God’s
Word—and sometimes it was not well received.
We do well to remember this in a world where the truth of this kind is
neither popular nor palatable to some. As God’s children, we are also
called to display both grace and truth to those to whom God sends us—
even if it means we are rejected for doing so.
Chapter 7, Verse 4 (NIV) says: “Your neck is like an ivory tower. Your
eyes are the pools of Heshbon by the gate of Bath Rabbim. Your nose
is like the tower of Lebanon looking towards Damascus.”
Back in chapter 4, we also saw a reference made to her neck—it was
likened to a tower of weaponry. Here, however, it is described as an
ivory tower. Ivory speaks of great resilience and also suffering, as ivory
can only be obtained through the killing of an animal. The Shulamite
has suffered greatly in her pursuit of the Lord, and yet her heart has
remained constant and steadfast for the most part. He has become such
an integral part of her life now that nothing will prevent her or turn her
aside from pursuing full consummation in her relationship with her
Bridegroom King. No matter what may come against her, she is an
overcomer in Christ, and it is the Lord’s work of refining and
strengthening that has produced within her this dogged determination
to possess Him at all costs.
The reference to her eyes being compared to pools of Heshbon is very
significant because Heshbon was known for its lush reservoirs.
