RADICAL LOVE
I sought the Lord to understand why, after the encounter, Jacob limped
due to a dislocated hip. I sensed the answer to be that Jacob needed to
be reminded every day of the necessity of God’s presence and power
in his life in order to walk out his God-intended destiny—and the same
applies to us. We can also wander off on our own little journeys and do
things without God’s power and presence. Sometimes, we don’t want
to wait and listen for His way—it doesn’t seem palatable. But as we see
from the example of Jacob and the Shulamite, only God’s way brings
true fulfilment, peace, and joy.
Jacob had left his family and home many years before, taking only his
staff. However, because of God's grace and goodness, he returned with
two camps. This is what is possible for a believer who fully commits
themselves to the Lord. The impossible becomes possible because they
possess not only their humanity, but also God’s divine power—as we
will now see as we take a look at chapter seven.
Now, the Bridegroom begins speaking out, loving and affirming
prophetic declarations over the Shulamite. This is a picture of what the
end-time Church will look like, and it will flow out of intimacy and
yielding to the Godhead.
In order to give the reader as much information as I can, once again, I
will explain the text from the NIV, as the Passion Translation is quite
straightforward to grasp:
