SESSION 16 : Song of Songs Chapter 6:13; 7:1-6 (TPT)
Once, I was in church dressed in walking gear. I had my boots on, and
during worship, the Lord asked me to dance with Him. I was mortified!
I had danced before and had been accused of being a show-off, seeking
attention, etc., so I argued and said, “Lord, this is a Free Methodist
Church! I am relatively new here, and if I dance, my husband will be
so embarrassed” (he did not like me dancing then, but has no qualms
about it now!). “Also, look at how I’m dressed, Lord! I’m in walking
gear with heavy boots on!”
Consequently, I did not dance. But as the service continued—and the
sermon was all about obeying God no matter what—I felt so sad that I
had not done as the Lord had asked. Finally, I repented and asked Him
for a second chance. And He granted it! Something out of the ordinary
happened: the worship band was asked to play again. I got up and
danced and was totally lost in Jesus.
Afterwards, I received some criticism—but the following week, the
minister endorsed what I had done and said that it was an answer to
prayer. Not only that, he said it had broken through the spiritual
atmosphere to such an extent that, during the evening service, someone
ran down to the front of the church and knelt weeping before the Lord.
So, you see how humbling ourselves can bring life to others.
Also, dancing in the Bible is often used as a proclamation of victory.
