SESSION 16 : Song of Songs Chapter 6:13; 7:1-6 (TPT)

angels met him. When Jacob saw them, he said, ‘This is God’s army!’

So he named that place Mahanaim (two armies/camps).”

When Jacob arrived at this place, the angels were already there to help

and reassure him that they were present as he met his brother.
          Therefore, victory was assured.

Finally, at Mahanaim, Jacob wrestled with God, and thereafter, his

name was changed from Jacob to Israel. God joined Himself to Jacob—
they were now one, and therefore nothing could hinder his divine

destiny. This supernatural transformation, however, did not take place
without a great struggle and cost to Jacob. Let us take a look at what it

says in Genesis 32:24–28 (NIV): “So Jacob was left alone, and a man

wrestled with him till daybreak. When the man saw that he could not
overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was

wrenched as he wrestled with the man. Then the man said, ‘Let me go,
for it is daybreak.’ But Jacob replied, ‘I will not let you go unless you

bless me.’ The man asked him, ‘What is your name?’ ‘Jacob,’ he
answered. Then the man said, ‘Your name will no longer be Jacob, but

Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have

          overcome.’”

Through his tenacity and determination not to let God go without His

blessing, as I mentioned above, God changed his name from Jacob,
meaning “supplanter,” to Israel, meaning “one who prevails with

God.” This signifies the transformation that took place through his

refusing to accept less than what the Lord was capable of giving him.
