RADICAL LOVE

Shulamite has fed on Him and is now able to impart the nourishment

          she has received to others.

Notice how lilies encircle the wheat. This denotes purity. This maiden’s

message, although full of grace, is still undiluted truth. It is a pure
message—not there to tickle the ears of listeners. There are times when

all of us need to be challenged, corrected, or rebuked, so that, as

servants of God, we may be thoroughly equipped for every good work
          (see 2 Timothy 3:16, NIV).

The tribute to the Shulamite goes on, as the Bridegroom-King then says
to her in verse 3 of the NIV: “Your breasts are like two fawns, twin

          fawns of a gazelle.”

Breasts are for the feeding and nurturing of young babes by the mother,

and this is exactly what she has become: a mature mother in the things

of the Spirit and a source of spiritual nourishment to less mature
          believers.

Notice how the text says that the fawns are twins. Some commentaries
suggest that this signifies “faith and love.” However, as I meditated on

the meaning, I felt the need to use the words grace and truth:

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have
seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the

Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14 NIV)

Jesus was someone who showed grace, manifested love, extended

mercy, and was disposed to show kindness in His dealings with people.
