RADICAL LOVE
to doing whatever He asks of us, irrespective of what others may think.
When Jesus takes hold of a person’s life to this extent, unbroken
fellowship with Him becomes paramount to every other desire.
Only Jesus can satisfy our deepest longings. The Shulamite had now
reached this level of maturity—and it is where God wants to bring His
people. The divine artist has created a masterpiece and is ready to
present her to the whole world. She is His ambassador, full of His grace
and dignity.
The text continues:
“Your navel is a rounded goblet that never lacks blended wine. Your
waist is a mound of wheat encircled by lilies.”
We know that, humanly speaking, the navel is the point of attachment
to the mother via the umbilical cord. Through this cord, the developing
child receives all necessary nutrients to grow until it is completely
ready for birth. Similarly, in spiritual terms, God is our perfect parent,
and as we abide and stay connected to Him, we will also mature and
develop.
In John 15, we are told that Jesus is the vine, and we are the branches.
As we remain in Him, we will bear much fruit. The Shulamite now
lives a life at one with her Beloved Bridegroom-King and has attained
the fullness Christ offers all who will sit at His feet and cooperate with
Him.
