SO… THAT WAS FRIENDSHIP?
“Yeah,” I said, rubbing my neck as I felt the rough edge of my
birthmark.
“Oh, honey, you know I can’t allow that.”
“But I’m thirteen! You have to—at least just this once,” I pleaded,
moving closer and touching her hand. “Please, just today, this year, for
school.”
“... Fine.”
“Really? Yes! Thanks, Mom, I love you so much!”
“Alright, but only highlighting—not dye, not haircut. Just
highlights, okay?”
“Mhm.” I nodded with a grin.
“And if you’re going tonight, you must be here by... six p.m.,” she
said, checking her phone.
“Okay, thanks, Mom!”
I was so happy she finally said yes to something I really wanted. I
went back to my room and gave a big smile to make my BFFs realize
my mom had said yes too.
Elisha jumped up, clapping her hands. “Ooh, I knew she would
agree!”
“Now all we have to do is go to the salon, pay, and do our hair!”
Madelyn said, smiling.
“Yeah. But who’s taking us? I mean, both of your parents are
working, and we also can’t go alone—it’s way too far!” I said.
“What about your mom?” Elisha asked.
