THE LIFE OF A TEENAGE GIRL

I didn’t really hear what they were saying, so I just got changed
into my favorite summer floral dress and called my best friends.

When they came, we went back to talking about the hair highlights.

Madelyn sat on my gaming chair and said, “So, I was thinking—maybe
just the ends of our hair? Because we don’t wanna dye our whole hair,

          ya know?”
“Yeah, I think that’s a good idea,” Elisha said with a shrug.

“Okay, so now all we have to do is tell our moms,” I stated.
“Well, we already told our moms…” Madelyn muttered.

“Oh. I guess I have to tell my mom now,” I said, scratching my

          hair awkwardly.
“You got this! I’m sure she’ll say yes,” Elisha said, putting her

          hand on my shoulder.

I then went to Mom’s door and knocked. I entered and saw her on
          the bed, using her phone.

               “Hey, Charls, what’s up?”
“Uh, I need your permission for something.”

“What is it?” She finally paused her typing and turned to me.
“So, my friends and I decided to make a list for Grade 8 this term.

          And…”

“And?” She got up and sat straight.
“And we wanted to highlight our hair first.”

She went quiet for a while, and I knew she was going to say no.
               “Um... today?”
