SO… THAT WAS FRIENDSHIP?


             “I don’t know, maybe this was a bad idea. We should probably use
          the YouTube way.” I hated saying that, but I wanted to anyway.

             “Really, Charls? This was your idea in the first place! And I know

          you’re nervous, but this is the only way to help solve the S.M. thing.”
             “I guess she’s right,” Madelyn said, looking at me with her deep,

          mossy eyes.
             “Great! Now, c’mon—I’m starving. Do you have any crackers or

          something?” Elisha stretched and put the checklist away.
             “Uh, yeah. I do,” I said, getting up.

             We immediately started discussing what to do first over the weekend

          after finishing our snacks from the new groceries Mom had bought for
          me and Eliott.

             Madelyn, eating her last cream cracker, said, “Oh! What about…
          highlighting our hair first? Because, you know, it’s kind of something

          you have to do before school. And besides, my mom always wanted me
          to do my hair, so I think we can try to get our parents to accept it. What

          do you think?”

             “I think… that’s a great idea! My mom will definitely allow me,”
          Elisha said.

             They turned to each other and started whispering funny jokes about

          how easily their parents would let them do their own hair.
             And that’s another thing about my friends—they never tend to think

          about my opinion.
             “What about me? My mom will for sure not allow me. You know

          how she is. How about... ‘Help Humanity’? It’s better, because then
